"Have TPTB Revealed The Island's Location?"

As Bigmouth has noted on his blog: http://eyemsick.blogspot.com/ TPTB have mentioned "antipodes" in a couple of their last interviews this season. Antipodes are geographic locations that are diametrically opposite to each other through the center of the earth. Check out his great post and references on it.

After reading that I got curious and did an image search on antipodes and found a Google map for finding them. I put the arrow on Tozeur, Tunisia, where Ben's hotel was (not necessarily where he landed) and the bottom arrow landed at the antipode as shown, to the right of Australia. It's not exactly at the "4.815, 162.342" coordinates, but a bit south of that. Going to a "4.8xxx..." point takes the antipodal arrow to the far south of Nigeria. Not a bad proposition for explaining Yemi's small plane getting to the island, although that's too far away for Ben to be riding a horse to his favorite hotel with no provisions. But...is Tunisia the antipode for the island's position in 2004, or for its location after it "moved" and spewed Ben out to the antipodal point in the desert?!

I thought that it was interesting to find a map that could locate the exact antipodes for us, so that we wouldn't have to guess, in case this concept is a key to locating the island.

I really like this theory. I've never thought the numbers were latitude and longitude, so it definitely works for me. After all, if the numbers were the location, it would be easy to find wouldn't it?

Right! I think that some people back during TLE first plugged the numbers into Google Earth and came up with an area NE to Australia. I think that it hits about where the line bends on the bottom map here.

I had read TPTB mention antipodes this year but I'd never heard of the term before, and didn't get around to looking it up until Bigmouth started talking about it. Then I paid more attention to it since it really does look possible for the geographic pinpointing of points in the story that have been revealed. Especially after the whole Tunisia visits with the polar bear and Ben.

P.S. Your post today makes me think that we should take another look at Ben's IDs/passports in the caps, to see if we can see any country stamps that can be plugged into the antipode map. Probably not, but, I'll check it out just in case.

I had been talking with Bigmouth about how Portland has an antipode with Madagascar and Suva, Fiji shares an antipodal location with Timbuktu. The second is just one of those happy coincidences that mean nothing, but it makes one wonder if the previous location of the Island was off the coast of Oregon. Naomi's sat phone was transmitting towards that area, so it makes me then wonder who is really in charge of Mittelos Bioscience.

That's right, I remember you saying that. According to the antipode map, Portland's antipode lands between Madagascar and what the map calls "French Southern and Antarctic lands", whatever that means. At first I thought that it was Diego Garcia, but that's farther north, but just as grimly isolated. It would be nice to know why Horace and Olivia "happened" to be in Portland, in addition to their mode of travel.

I have to check and see where the vortices line up with the antipodal spots that we have so far, just for the heck of it.

This is a really cool idea! Before your post I only heard of antipodes but never really knew what they were. I think this might be one of the front runners when it comes to theories on the island's location. Expecially since you mentioned TPTB have mentioned it in passing.

To be honest, I didn't think too muchof it either until Big's post.

I, too, think this a really cool theory. It would explain a few things. Everything in life seems to have an opposite...why not a location?

You're right Maven, especially when you think about magnetic poles, etc.
